Reading notes: African Nigeria unit: Why the Bat flies by Night

There was once a bush rat called Oyot and his friend the bat named Emiong. They were great friends and always ate together, but the bat was jealous of the rat. Whenever the bat makes the soup it taste a lot better than when the rat makes it. bat says its so good because "I always boil myself in the water, and my flesh is so sweet that the soup is good."
Bat decided he would show the rat and proceeded to only get warm water and get into the soup, claiming that it was boiling. Then brought out the already prepared soup. Rat later went home and decided he was going to show the trick to his wife. He prepared the boiling water and jumped in, soon dying in the boiling water. The wife was angry at the bat and told the king what he had done. Everyone turned out to capture the bat and take him prisoner. Bat suspected something was up and flew away to hid in the brush, only to come out and feed at night in the dark.
