Weekly Reading 12: The Field of Boliauns

One day during the Lady Day harvest tom was walking through the fields, when he heard a weird noise coming from behind the hedge. He wanted to know what the crazy noise from behind the hedge was, but when he looked all eh saw was a big brown jug of liquor. Then a small little old man appeared from behind the jug with a crooked hat and brown apron. Tom was so thrilled to see a leprechaun because he had never seen one before and know he had to keep it in his sites at all times. Tom started to talk to the little man admiring his work, and asked him kindly what was in the pitcher he had with him. The old man told him it was very good beer.  He explained that he had made it with heath instead of barley and tom did not believe that the leprechaun was telling the truth. He then began to explain he was telling the truth and that it was a secret family recipe. Tom asked for a taste but then the little man told him that his cow had escaped and was breaking his crops. He knew he was being tricked so he grabbed for the little man, spilling the beer before he could taste it. Tom was so mad he threatened to kill the little man if he didn’t show him his pot of gold. The gold was under the ground and in his haste Tom forgot his shovel so eh went back to get it, making the spot where the gold was.  He then released the little man who promised not to move his marking but by the time he got back everything but the making was gone and he dug and dug not beign able to find the gold.
